The new federation of Bexley Hall and Seabury Western Theological Seminary offers two ways to study Anglican history, theology, liturgy and ethics.

Semester Classes in Columbus

At the center of Bexley Hall's academic curriculum is a seven-course sequence in Anglican Studies. We also offer a variety of Anglican Studies electives. Seminarians at non-Episcopal seminaries and laypeople are welcome to enroll in Bexley’s Anglican Studies classes.

Core courses, taught during the fall and spring semesters in rotation, are:

Anglican Divines: Overview of Anglican Theology

Anglican Moral Theology: Ethics in Anglicanism

Liturgics I: Introduction to the Book of Common Prayer

We also offer a variety of Anglican Studies electives, including:

Topics in Contemporary Anglican Theology

Celtic Christian Life and Thought, 300-1500

Seeking God: Introduction to Spirituality and the Practice of Prayer

Christology and Atonement

Bexley M.Div. students also take six semesters of Anglican Formation, a weekly, course credit gathering that includes celebration of the Holy Eucharist and exploring spiritual practices as a group, praying with and for one another, and discussing a common text.

Weeklong and Weekend Intensives in Chicago with Online Work

Seabury’s Diploma in Anglican Studies is designed for people preparing for ministry in the Episcopal Church who are not attending an Episcopal seminary full time. We also welcome laypeople. Our diploma program includes eight core courses that can be completed over a year or more.

We offer each of our Anglican Studies courses is offered in a hybrid format that combines online work with intensive on-campus classes that include worship and formation. The intensive classes are held either for three weekends during the regular semester (once a month, Sept.-Dec. or Feb.-May) or for two consecutive weeks in January (Monday – Friday).
