It may be the three most important things about real estate, but when picking a seminary, Bexley's new seminarians considered more than just location. The intimacy of the small size, the strong sense of Spirit and its ecumenical partnership with Trinity Lutheran Seminary were all deciding factors. And yes, they liked the location, too. Meet Bexley's five newest students.

I am a postulant from the Diocese of Southern Ohio, sponsored by my home parish, Church of the Redeemer in Cincinnati, and starting at Bexley Hall as a mid-term middler. My undergraduate degree was from Western College in Oxford, Ohio, majoring in Fine Arts. I have a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling and began my MDiv studies at The Athenaeum of Ohio. I also recently completed a two-year program in Spiritual Direction through the Sycamore Spirituality Center. I retired from a corporate career with focus on marketing and global diversity.

My experience of call to the ordained priesthood has pursued me much of my adult life. I am grateful for the opportunity to respond to this call at this time and to be doing so as part of the Bexley Hall community. I deeply value the diversity within our seminary and the heart-filled welcome I have received here.
I am blessed with my son, daughter-in-law, a delightful five-month-old granddaughter, and a devoted dog, SweetP — all residing in Cincinnati. Some of my other interests include writing, painting and gardening.

Most recently I worked as program manager for the Ross Leadership Initiative at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. But really I am a reformed professional fly angler (i.e., trout bum) who has spent over a dozen years working in the fly-fishing industry for the Orvis Company (Chicago) and Chicago Fly Fishing Outfitters. This is my first year volunteering for Casting for Recovery as I recover from breast cancer treatment.

The Diocese of Michigan is my sponsoring diocese, and in 2010, I was a vestry member and co-chair of the stewardship commission at St. Clare Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since then my partner Jennifer Rangel and I have moved to Melbourne, Florida.  I have a BA in philosophy from Louisiana State University and an MA in sports biomechanics from The University of Iowa.

I am attracted to studying at Bexley Hall for at least three reasons. The first is the intimacy of the small size of Bexley Hall, yet which has the advantage of greater diversity by sharing faculty and students with Trinity Lutheran Seminary. Secondly, there is a palpable sense of the Spirit among the Bexley Hall community that moves me. Finally, I am looking forward to growing, growling, laughing, arguing, struggling, sharing and loving my fellow students as we discover who we are in the context of God's creation and this world.

My two sons, ages 10 and 12, and I recently moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to join my husband, who has a new job there. Before the move we lived in Montreal, Canada, and I served as a warden in my home parish of Christ Church Beaurepaire in Beaconsfield, Quebec. I was also the stewardship officer for the Diocese of Montreal.

I am entering Bexley as a senior and am doing it three-quarters time, commuting from Cleveland. I previously attended Montreal Diocesan Theological College, an Anglican theological college and a founding member of The Montreal School of Theology in affiliation with McGill University.

My background is in international development, focusing on human rights and justice issues, and I see Jesus as a terrific human rights worker. I decided to go to seminary because there was a real pull for me to bring those two things together. I had worked in Kenya and Haiti, where I worked for Save the Children and the Christian Children's Fund. I just saw that a faith-based approach to community building, human rights and relationships is a wonderful way to build a community that is respectful and follows in the model of Jesus.

I chose Bexley because of the location and because it came highly recommended. When I found out that the Lutherans were connected with Bexley, that was a real plus. I've always been in an ecumenical setting, and I really have just loved it.

I am an entering junior from the Diocese of Lexington.  Lexington, Kentucky, is my home, and Christ Church Cathedral is my sponsoring parish. My undergraduate degree is in English from the University of Kentucky. My professional career has been mainly in marketing, at the newspaper in Lexington and then at a home electronics company. I leave behind (for now) two lab-shepherd mixes, and anyone who gets to know me knows I am a huge animal lover.

My process through discernment so far has been very quick in the literal number of years it has taken, but it has still felt like an eternity at times. To finally be here at Bexley Hall is something I have yet to fully process. It is a combination of wonderment at the mystery God continues to provide, a desire to transition into a new life and other various sentiments. I am glad part of my discernment is finished and the next part begins. And along with that, hopefully a deep formation both spiritually and academically with everyone here at Bexley and at Trinity Lutheran Seminary begins as well.

I am a postulant of the Diocese of Maine from the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Portland. Originally from North Carolina, I went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 2004 with a BS in Chemistry.  Seeking a year of discernment and reflection after college I interned at Battle Harbour Parish in Labrador, Canada, where I served as a lay reader in eight communities while the parish was between rectors. Wanting to return stateside, I joined the Micah Project, a residential internship in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, and served as a hospital chaplain intern at Boston Medical Center. I left Boston for Portland, Maine, where I worked for a non-profit serving the homeless community. In Portland I found an amazing parish family at St. Luke's, and they encouraged me to discern for Holy Orders.

When I visited Bexley Hall last year, I was amazed at the dynamic environment caused by the Episcopal Lutheran dialogue and its history of liberal Anglo-Catholic formation. I am looking forward to the emotional and mental growth that will come about in the midst of formalized theological study in such a setting.
